Why Nature's Blends Black Seed Oil Has 5x More Thymoquinone Than Other Brands

Why Nature's Blends Black Seed Oil Has 5x More Thymoquinone Than Other Brands

Walk into any health food shop or search online for black seed oil and you will find dozens of options. Most of them look similar — dark bottles, similar claims. But there is one number that separates effective black seed oil from expensive vegetable oil: thymoquinone (TQ) percentage.

What Is Thymoquinone?

Thymoquinone is the primary bioactive compound in Nigella sativa — the molecule responsible for black seed oil's immune-supporting, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Without sufficient TQ, you are essentially paying for carrier oil with minimal active benefit.

The UK Market Problem

The majority of black seed oils sold in the UK contain under 0.5% thymoquinone. Some contain as little as 0.1%. These oils may be marketed as "100% pure" or "premium" — and they may be pure — but purity is not the same as potency.

Low TQ content results from:

  • Seed origin: Indian or Syrian Nigella sativa consistently produces lower TQ than Ethiopian varieties
  • Heat pressing: Expeller-pressed or heat-extracted oils destroy a significant portion of TQ during processing
  • No testing: Most brands do not test TQ content and therefore do not know what they are selling

Nature's Blends: 2.5% Thymoquinone

Nature's Blends® black seed oil is independently tested by a UK laboratory and contains 2.5% thymoquinone. Here is what that means in practice:

Metric Industry Average Nature's Blends®
TQ percentage Under 0.5% 2.5%
TQ per teaspoon (5ml) ~25mg or less ~125mg
Seed origin India or Syria Ethiopia (high altitude)
Processing method Often heat-pressed Cold-pressed, raw
Independent lab test Rarely Yes — certificate available

Why Ethiopian Black Seed Oil Is Superior

Ethiopian Nigella sativa grows at altitudes of 1,500–2,500 metres in mineral-rich volcanic soil. This environment stresses the plant, causing it to produce higher concentrations of thymoquinone as a protective compound. Ethiopian-sourced oil consistently outperforms Indian and Syrian varieties in independent TQ testing.

How to Check Your Current Oil

Ask your current supplier for a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) showing the thymoquinone percentage. If they cannot provide one, they do not know the TQ content of their oil.

Nature's Blends provides a CoA on request. Our 2.5% TQ has been consistently verified across multiple batches.
